The Great Beam - Reproduction Oak Beam
Oakleaf has been developing its extensive range of reproduction oak beams since the company began in 1969, both to decorate plain ceilings in the cosy traditional style, and to conceal unsightly RSJs and pipework.
In response to requests for a beam to clad large RSJs, particularly relevant in period style property extensions and barn conversions, the company launched The Great Beam, so called due to its very substantial proportions.
Moulded from an ancient oak beam, the copy bears all the beautiful grain, fault and figuring of the time-worn original, turning a necessary structural eye-sore (the RSJ) into an attractive natural feature. Around 30cms square, it will enclose items up to 28cms in depth and 20cms in width, and is available in 3.2, 4.8 and 6.3m lengths, (bespoke lengths can be specially prepared, and delivered nationwide).
Its full length weighs less than 25 kgs, so it is easy to handle and install, requiring only nails and glue, creating minimal disruption and building mess.
Impervious to the effects of moisture, and unaffected by central heating, The Great Beam is guaranteed not to crack or twist, unlike real oak!
As with all Oakleaf products, it is stained by hand, and in addition to the most popular finish, jacobean oak, a huge variety of styles are available, from contemporary mellow oak to dark medieval, and we even offer to stain to match existing timbers.

The Great Beam is available in three standard lengths, or bespoke to individual requirements.
Bearing all the faults and figuring of the time-worn original, even close scrutiny rarely distinguishes one from the other.
Unlike real oak cladding, it is light (weighing only 25kgs in its full 6.3m length), easy to fix, (requiring no structural alterations), and unaffected by the effects of central heating (so will neither crack nor shrink).

Using our reproduction oak beams to clad RSJs and other beams
Being U-shaped, the T23 will enclose up to 260mm depth x 200mm width (so most popular RSJs, together with their plasterboard boxing).
For larger requirements, the RSJ Cladding Plank system (ref T19) when assembled will enclose boxed RSJs up to 300mm square (see price/sizes list).
Orders are delivered direct to site, hand-stained to customer requirements, normally within 3 to 4 weeks of order.
