Overview of the TeleFast acoustic coupler from TeleAdapt, by Seamus Waldron
|
Whether you encounter plugs/sockets, hard wired phones, digital PBX's or pay phones, the TeleFast Plus acoustic coupler provides a method of connecting your computer to online systems. Transmitting at speeds of up to 24,000bps, the TeleFast is lightweight and fits most handsets.
If you travel on holiday or your job requires you to travel to various countries at short notice, an acoustic coupler, such as the Telefast is an essential piece of hardware. Although it is always ideal to connect directly, it can be difficult to predict in advance what systems will be available in your destination country. You could encounter plugs/sockets, hard wired phones, digital PBX's or pay phones.
An acoustic coupler removes a significant hurdle in the connection process. Due to its design, the Telefast is placed over the handset and secured into place by a velcro strap, thus making a connection. It my experience, it is simple, quick and effective.
Most people think of acoustic couplers as slow and unreliable devices, remembering films such as "War Games". The TeleFast can run at up to 24,000bps. Performance speeds are affected by the line and handset quality. However, you get an excellent acoustic connection in most situations.
The small size and light weight are important aspects of this coupler. When travelling, my palmtop and Telefast weigh in at less than half a pound and take up the space of a hard-backed novel.
